The Rise of Telehealth: Why Online Therapy is Here to Stay

It used to be that seeing a therapist meant dealing with rush-hour traffic and sitting in a waiting room. Today, high-quality mental healthcare can happen right from your living room. But is it right for you?

For a great overview on the benefits of virtual care, check out this guide from the American Psychological Association (APA): What You Need to Know Before Choosing Online Therapy.

Short on time? Here are the top three takeaways from the APA—and how we use telehealth to support our clients at Arizona Behavioral Health Associates (psychotherapy.com):

  • It offers unmatched convenience: The APA highlights that online therapy removes major barriers like commuting, allowing you to log in wherever you are most comfortable. This is why we proudly offer seamless, secure telehealth services, making it easier than ever to fit therapy into your busy schedule.
  • Location doesn't have to limit your care: Traditionally, you had to find a provider in your immediate zip code. Because our providers are credentialed through PSYPACT and the Counseling Compact, we are authorized to provide online therapy to clients across over 40 participating states—perfect for college students, frequent travelers, or out-of-state residents!
  • You need a licensed, qualified professional: The APA stresses the importance of ensuring your online therapist is fully licensed and practicing evidence-based care. Our team of highly trained, licensed professionals provides the exact same gold standard of care virtually—including CBT for anxiety, depression, and stress—as we do in person.

Community Involvement

Our roots in Flagstaff go beyond the office. Lee Lusk has coached high school speech and debate in Flagstaff for years, first as assistant coach at BASIS Flagstaff and then as head coach at Flagstaff High School. When Flagstaff High students wanted to start a team but couldn't find an adult adviser, Lee stepped in. He has taken students to the Arizona state championship, the 2014 National Speech & Debate Tournament in Overland Park, Kansas, and, in multiple years, the Tournament of Champions at the University of Kentucky.

Free Community Screenings

In 2002 and 2003 our practice hosted free national screening days in Flagstaff for anxiety, depression and alcohol use. Flagstaff Mayor Chris Bavasi proclaimed National Depression Screening Day for the city, with our practice as the provider.
